Research:Exploring the Photophysics of the Thermally Activated Delay Fluorescence Process

The thermally activated delay fluorescence (TADF) process has attracted enormous attention in organic light emission (OLED) applications because it effectively harvests both singlet and triplet excitons through reverse intersystem crossing (rISC) mechanisms, improves the IQE compared to the conventional fluorescent materials. Intra-molecular structural changes in the excited states have significant impacts on TADF activity. Still, direct mechanistic details of structural dynamics of TADF molecules remain elusive. Therefore, it is vital to understand and control the effect of structural restriction on photophysical properties. We focused on understanding the modulation of photophysical behaviors of TADF molecules and TADF building block chromophores under structural restriction conditions by the host-guest complexations. Our efforts are focused on a host-matrix induced TADF activity from the very simple organic chromophores without any chemical modifications.
